So here is what that plank of wood turned into - gorgeous wooden placemats, now finished and nearly ready to be photographed properly for inclusion in our store. 

These are made from idigbo, and we'll be looking to add different woods to the range very soon, including oak and other woods that will finish beautifully. We'll also do some experimentation with patterns, particularly ones to match our coasters, and are looking forward to trying a few ideas out too! Personalisation is always an option, so get in touch if you have anything in mind!

We'll be trying one of these out with a hot plate from the oven over the weekend, just to make sure that the varnish holds up to temperature OK, and then we'll be making them available for sale. They should be fine for warmed plates, but not a hot pan straight from the stove or oven - trivets are your best bet there! If we put a hot pan on it to test it out, we'll let you know how it goes ...
